Did you know that some orphanages have a 30 to 40 percent mortality rate for babies? What’s going on there? A Psychology Today article offers an explanation for this high mortality rate, and you may have heard about this in regard to orphanages in Russia, Dominican Republic, and some other places.

Essentially, the high risk of infant death in these orphanages is due to a lack of touching and holding from the caretakers. Even though these babies receive adequate food and diaper changes, if they don’t receive enough physical stimulation, they may eventually die.

That’s a tough fact to start out with, but I do it because of a growing trend we’re seeing from the marketing world. It’s known as OOH, which stands for out of home, and it refers to entertainment. This began with the Millennial generation when they started to cut their cable subscriptions. They got rid of cable to cut costs and looked to the various other ways to watch their favorite programs.

The numerous video streaming platforms and social media video apps made cable, and its high cost, unnecessary. Increasingly, people are watching their favorite shows together with friends and not necessarily at home. Of course, people can meet at one person’s home, but they’re more often meeting up to enjoy these programs at entertainment venues.

Whether it’s a favorite bar, restaurant, or other gathering place, it’s a really cool trend. One of the best things about it is that we’re getting away from people just sitting in front of a TV by themselves. Instead, they’re actually getting out and connecting with others. They’re having that all-important social stimulation, enjoying conversation, and saving money too.

Technology has advanced to the point where you don’t have to pay for all of these expensive cable services to watch the shows and entertainment you love. Instead, you can cut the cable cord, have fun with friends and family, and get out of your home instead of sitting alone on the couch in the blue TV light.

So, the next time you’re paying your cable bill, think about how much money you could save and the connections you can make if you cut that cord. Until next time, enjoy.
