We can wear it, we can flaunt it, we can use it as power over others, or we can judge others by it. What am I talking about? Money! This list is really the ugly side of money, the part that none of us wants to have happen to us in terms of our character and integrity.
As we grow our wealth, we can let the wealth, the money, define our character, or we can have our character really define our wealth. I think most of us would like to have the character to continue to define our wealth as we move along.
I have 4 key money characteristics I’d like you to consider:
- Prudence. This is about wisdom, good judgement, and common sense, as it deals with you and how you deal with your money.
- Responsibility. This addresses how you invest your money, how you save it, spend it, gift it, and all of the other ways you work with your money responsibly as you move through life.
- Humility. You’re born in to this world with nothing, and you leave it with nothing. In between, you may be fortunate enough to build wealth. But it can be taken away at any time, for many reasons, so keeping your feet on the ground and not letting your head swell with the idea that somehow you had everything to do with your wealth being created, is important to remember.
- Gratefulness. If you are fortunate to be born in to the circumstances you find yourself in, you’ve met the right people, you’ve gone to the right schools, you’re given the right opportunities, you took action, and you’re grateful that you actually were given these choices to make. It’s very important for all of us to be grateful for what we have as we go along.
As you grow your wealth, you can grow these other aspects of your characteristics to match up with the way you deal with your wealth and how your wealth deals with the outside world: your family, community, and other people. And that’s really what it’s all about!
